The Liverpool prospect will join the Championship Side through the end of their current campaign.
The life of a youth prospect for one of Europe’s biggest clubs is one spent in perpetual struggle, I imagine. Considering the long odds due to squad size restrictions across the the various leagues, the simple math of it is that the people making up rosters of clubs in the various top level of professional football across nations is finite. Meaning the chances of seeing the pitch for such a club is also finite.
It is a rough and tumble existence to be sure, but one that is plied I’m sure with hope. And in search of fulfilling that hope, many youth players inevitably taking a loan spell away from their home club.
This year, Liverpool’s involvement in so many competitions opened the door for quite a few youth players to work their way into being on the fringe of involvement with the first team. One such player is 21 year old midfielder Herbie Kane, who found time with the first team during Liverpool’s Carabao Cup run.
Unfortunately, with the team having been eliminated by Aston Villa in late December, those opportunities for promising youth are running out. As such, the club has officially announced that Herbie Kane will be joining Championship side Hull City on loan for the remainder of the season.
Hull City was Andrew Robertson’s old stomping grounds before joining up with the Reds, but Kane’s got his own connections with the squad. Last season, the midfielder was loaned to League One side Doncaster Rovers, where Kane’s performances were rewarded with being named to the League One Team of the Season. His manager at the time was Grant McAnn who is currently Hull’s manager.
Here’s hoping that connection will provide Kane with the playing time needed to continue his development. Best of luck to Herbie!
