Nat Phillips could be set to spend another season in Germany if Stuttgart get their wish—and their promotion.
It appears that Nat Phillips’ time at Stuttgart this season has been a success, with reports out of Germany that the 2.Bundesliga side are hoping to negotiate a second season on loan there for the 23-year-old centre half.
That’s the word according to local outlet Stuttgarter Nachrichten as retold for an English audience by Inside Futbol today, with the German side said to be talking to the Reds and the Reds said to be happy to loan Phillips out again.
One might expect, too, that after Stuttgart sent Phillips back to Liverpool in January for a week to face Everton in the FA Cup and help his parent club through a brief defensive crisis, the clubs would be on good terms.
The question, though, will be whether they want to send him back to the 2.Bundesliga or if they want him to spend time next in a better league—a question that could be put to rest if Stuttgart earn promotion to the top tier in Germany.
On that front, things are looking positive for them as they stand second and in an automatic qualification place. But it’s tight, with Hamburger just a point behind in a playoff place and Heidenheim just three points back in turn.
In Germany, the third place side in the 2.Bundesliga faces the 16th place side in the top flight to determine next season’s placement. Clubs in both leagues are hoping the situation will allow them to restart football on May 9th.
