Now or never for the Reds in January?
Liverpool FC and RB Salzburg attacker have been linked to each other a fair bit in the rumour mill lately. Now, a report from Bild’s Christian Falk states that RB Leipzig has no intention of letting a transfer for the attacker until after the 2022/23 season. Per a previous report from Goal, Liverpool FC have been interested in the player since as far back as 2018. He’s a young, rapid attacker who plays in a high-pressing team… it’s relatively easy to see why Liverpool may be interested in him. Though he primarily operates as a centre-forward, he has lined up on the left-wing, and on much rarer occasions, on the right as well.
And Adeyemi is certainly raising his stock. Currently, the 19-year old has seven goals in eight Austrian Bundesliga games this season, with another coming in a Champions League Play-Off. He then got called up to the German national team, where he notched another goal on his debut.
Against Sevilla in the Champions League, Adeyemi won an absurd three penalties for his team. Somehow, the match finished 1-1, despite Sevilla playing with a man down after 50 minutes. Go figure.
Liverpool is in a bit of a pickle here. Is the smart play to overpay now and force Salzburg’s hand, and avoid paying a much higher fee in 18 months if Adeyemi does follow in the footsteps of fellow Salzburg hitmen Haaland and Daka? For that to happen, recruitment has to believe that he’s a sure thing. Or do they simply bide their time and explore other options? Bayern Munich is also mentioned as a potential rival for Adeyemi’s services, so this doesn’t sound like an easy transfer to pull off in any sense. Only time will tell.
