According to the Italian press, Naby Keïta could be sold to AC Milan to fund Neves’ signing. We’re beyond dubious.
We don’t expect much from Liverpool in the transfer market this summer, especially not after the club decided they had to pass on triggering Timo Werner’s £50M release clause on account of the financial uncertainty caused by coronavirus.
We certainly don’t expect them to sign Rúben Neves from Wolves given he’d cost at least as much, and we’d been avoiding the whispers of interest last week due to where they originated—namely, in the loathsome rag otherwise known as The Sun.
However, since then said whispers appear to have travelled to Italy and taken on a new complication. Namely that AC Milan would like to sign Naby Keïta, whom the Reds are apparently willing to sell. In order to fund the purchase of Neves.
It’s hard to know exactly what to do with this jumbled mess of a rumour, which is now starting to feed back into the English press. Suffice to say, we’re dubious of Milan paying £50M or thereabouts for Keïta so the Reds can pay £50M for Neves.
And that’s even without the bit about where the whispers about Neves to Liverpool first popped up last week. Still, as this transfer rumours is now starting to feed back into the English press, it seems worth addressing it up if only to dismiss it.
