Midfielder Jake Cain is said to be on the verge of a season-long move to Newport County.

While most of the focus for Liverpool fans on deadline day is on the potential departures of players like Nat Phillips and Divock Origi, along with perhaps some unlikely hope for a new forward to be brought in, so far there hasn’t been much action of any kind.

According to The Liverpool Echo, though, there’s one move close to getting done: a loan departure for 19-year-old academy midfielder Jake Cain, who they say is now on the verge of joining League Two side Newport County for the 2021-22 season.

The young Wigan native has been with the Reds since all the way back in 2010, working his way up through the youth levels. He made his sole senior appearance for the club last season in the FA Cup fourth round against League One’s Shrewsbury Town.

Newport sit mid-table in League Two after having played the first four games of the new season, recording two wins and two losses with three goals scored to five against, and expectations for them this season are that they will likely remain at that level.
