The Reds and Blues are both said to be very interested in England youth international Joe Gelhardt.
Having just seen one young striker depart the club, Liverpool are today being linked with a move for another promising young English attacker, with Wigan’s 17-year-old Joe Gelhardt reportedly a target for the Reds—as well as local rivals Everton.
That’s the story at least according to Goal’s Neil Jones, who says both of the Merseyside clubs are keeping close tabs on the youngster, a self-professed Liverpool fan who has made two appearances for the Championship side so far this season.
They aren’t alone in their interest, with Leicester, Wolves, and Chelsea at least all said to be interested—but Gelhart having been born in Netherton, on the outskirts of Liverpool, would likely give an edge to the Reds or Blues in the chase for his signature.
Last year, Manchester United were also linked with Gelhart along with Liverpool and Everton—a transfer story pushed by ESPN at the time—though their name doesn’t appear to be in the current mix for the England youth international.
Gelhart has two seasons on his current contract, his first as a senior player. He is currently on duty with the England U18s and is expected to start against Brazil and South Korea over the next week—with Liverpool scouts likely to be in attendance.
