The Bundesliga club are reportedly interested in bringing in Grujic on a loan-to-buy deal.
Persistent reports this year have had 24-year-old midfielder Marko Grujic as a player on Liverpool’s transfer list, with the club said to be exploring the possibility of permanently parting ways with the Serbian in order to raise funds.
The big question, with a global pandemic simmering in the background, was if the club could find a buyer willing to pay a suitable fee. According to a report from MozzartSport this week, they may have at least found a willing buyer.
The Serbian sports paper claim that Borussia Monchengladbach want to bring Grujic in—though it wouldn’t be a permanent transfer to start, instead being a loan-to-buy deal with an €18M fee heading the Reds’ way a year from now.
Such a deal would be a way for Monchengladbach to work around the financial uncertainty they and others are dealing with. On the other hand, for Liverpool it’s not exactly going to help when it comes to raising funds for the present.
It’s also lower than the €25-30M Liverpool had previously been said to be hoping to get for Grujic—though with previously being before the coronavirus pandemic, it might be that an €18M loan-to-buy deal is the best they can hope for.
If it is, the club may have a difficult choice to make between bringing in what they can—when they can—for a player who does not appear to be in Jürgen Klopp’s long-term plans or holding on to him and crossing their collective fingers.
