Reports out of Italy say that the Reds are competing with Juventus and Real Madrid for the Lyon rising star.

This is probably an example of “once Liverpool are linked, Liverpool will always be linked to a player,” but we’re coming on our third month without football, so what more do you want?

Anyway, a report from Italian publication Corriere dello Sport says that the Reds are the “main antagonists” for the signature of Lyon midfielder Houssem Aouar, with Juventus and Real Madrid said to also be interested.

Personally, I like that other teams across the continent are starting to see Liverpool as some sort of sinister force, but I digress.

The 21-year-old has impressed at Lyon, but the club is set to miss out on European football, which could hasten a sale. The report goes on to say that he would likely fetch an asking price of around €50 million.

Of course, no one knows what €50 million will buy you in the post-apocalypse transfer market. Indeed, Liverpool are even reportedly balking at a similar asking price for long-time target Timo Werner.

There’s probably not a great deal of truth to this particular rumor. Even in the worst of times Liverpool’s name is good for some clicks. When Liverpool are the best team in the world—which they are—they’ll get even more clicks.
