The player is reportedly “weighing his options” with one year remaining on his contract. So Liverpool, naturally.
Thiago Alcântara has been a mainstay in Bayern Munich’s midfield, making 150 league appearances since moving from Barcelona in 2013. However, according to the rumor mongers, Thiago might be considering a move away from Bavaria.
According to German publication Sport Bild, Thiago was set to sign a contract extension, but talks have recently stalled between the player and club. The report goes on to state that Thiago is weighing his options ahead of his final year of his contract.
At 29-years-old, he doesn’t quite have the profile one would expect a Liverpool transfer target to have. Plus Liverpool are rather stacked at midfield at the moment. And at an estimated cost of £43 million, this wouldn’t even fall into the late-stage James Milner “good value and experience for money” category of transfer. Keep in mind that Liverpool walked away from the £52 million deal for Timo Werner.
The more likely explanation is that Liverpool were linked because of the all-powerful clicks. We are European Royalty and the best team in the world at the moment, after all. Alternatively, it could be because Thiago’s agent wanted to create some external pressure for a better deal from Bayern.
This is all to say that this particular rumor is probably not true. But good luck with the contract negotiations, Thiago!
