The hot prospect German striker has been linked to Liverpool, and is openly pondering a summer move.
For some transfer market obsessed Liverpool fans, this year’s relatively quiet summer could only mean one thing: saving up to splash the cash next summer. And there are some big names floating about, especially with several exciting and young attacking players who appear to be angling for a move (#Mbappe2020).
One of those big names is 20-year Bayer Leverkusen striker Kai Havertz. Havertz had a breakthrough year in 2018/19, scoring 20 goals and adding 6 assists across all competitions. He hasn’t quite gotten off to a flyer so far this year, with 3 goals and an assist in 14 total appearances, but he’ll likely still be a hot prospect by the time summer rolls around.
And according to the player himself, he’s ready for a big move.
“I think I’ve picked up enough international experience at Leverkusen,” Havertz told Spanish publication Marca.
“I know the rhythm of these international matches and I’m confident that I can go abroad at any moment and play at clubs outside of Germany.
“For the moment, I want to have a good season. Afterwards, we’ll see.”
In transfer-speak, this is basically a “come and get me” plea. Is Havertz part of Liverpool’s summer plans? If so, considering Liverpool’s current standing on the continent, they very well could have a good chance of landing the young striker.
We do not currently know the long-term succession planning that’s going on behind closed-doors at Melwood. Whoever is in those plans, though, will go a long way toward whether or not this recently rejuvenated Liverpool has staying power once the current generation of stars (and star manager) fade away and/or move on.
