A reliable transfer source has confirmed an Atletico Madrid star will be available.
The search for Gini Wijnaldum’s replacement at Liverpool goes on. The Reds stalwart has officially joined Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer as of yesterday, leaving Jürgen Klopp to fill the massive hold the Dutchman has left in his midfield.
The rumor mill has dutifully linked all manner of midfielders to Anfield, with yet another cropping up over the past week or so, this time from Spain. Atletico Madrid are reported to have resigned themselves to losing Saúl Ñíguez in the summer window with the Reds mooted as potential destination.
On his Here We Go podcast, reliable transfer journalist, Fabrizio Romano confirmed that not only is the Spanish international set to depart the capital but that the a replacement has already been lined up, stating:
“[Saúl] is leaving Atletico Madrid this summer because they are signing [Udinese’s] Rodrigo De Paul.”
A €150m (£129m) release clause in the 26-year-old’s contract would make the possibility of a move a non-starter Michael Edwards and the transfer team in a summer where the Reds will need to fund most moves with sales. However, the newly-crowned La Liga champions are said to be willing to entertain offers as low as €40m (£34.4m) in an attempt to attend to coronavirus-addled finances.
Is this move on? Your guess is as good as ours. Edwards appears to be playing close to the vest after a recent spate of open secret transfers.
Would it be great to see the talented midfielder plying his trade for the Reds? Sure why not. Especially if he can whip a few more of these out:
