The Liverpool loanee found the back of the net again last night as the Swans ran out 3-1 winners over Birmingham.
It appears as if Liverpool’s summer transfer window will be a quiet one. As the failed transfer of Timo Werner shows, the club do not appear to be willing to risk large outlays of cash for new talent in these uncertain times.
If the Reds want to continue winning shiny things, they will instead need to rely more on homegrown talent than savvy transfer market dealings.
As such, the development of on-loan striker Rhian Brewster should be of interest to Liverpool staff and fans alike. The 20-year-old England youth international went out on loan to Swansea City in the January transfer window, and so far he has impressed.
Brewster netted for the second consecutive match last night in Swansea’s 3-1 win over Birmingham City. It was his 8th goal in 16 appearances for the Welsh club.
The win kept Swansea’s hopes of securing the final promotion playoff spot alive. Currently, the Swans sit 7th, one point behind Cardiff City for that last spot. The experience of scoring goals when they count—in the run-in for promotion in a competitive league—will no doubt do Brewster a world of good.
Of course it’s still a big jump from the Championship to leading the line for one of the best sides in the world. It’s still too early to say what Brewster’s level will be. But worst case, he would attract the interest of many mid-table Premier League sides. Best? Perhaps he can yet play his way into this Liverpool squad.
Jurgen Klopp will surly be tracking his development, and will be keen to see him in training when he’s back at Liverpool over the summer.
