Liverpool v Newcastle United - Premier League

Liverpool are coming off the shortest break possible following their Wednesday victory over Villarreal in the Champions League and will have to take on a resurgent Newcastle United as they look to set and early marker in Premier League action and at least briefly jump past leaders Manchester City in the standings. The short break will make things more difficult for the Reds, and they’ve often struggled with these early kickoffs under Jürgen Klopp, but if there’s any time to buckle down and put in a performance it’s now.

Newcastle, meanwhile, have long since pulled away from the relegation zone and look assured of a conformable mid-table finish this season, and any kind of a result against Liverpool would be a bonus rather than a necessity right now as Eddie Howe’s side prepare for their first offseason as the playthings of a human rights abusing petrostate that will look to spend big of their sportswashing project now that their pick for manager has steadied the ship.
