The Liverpool academy product could never quite breakthrough to the first team, but hopefully he has better luck in France.

Liverpool Football Club have confirmed that Pedro Chirivella will be moving on after the completion of his contract at the end of June. He’ll be moving on to Ligue 1 club Nantes, who finished the COVID-shortened season in 13th.

“Everybody at Liverpool FC thanks Pedro for his contribution to the club and wishes him the best of luck in his future career,” the club said in a statement on their official website.

The 23-year-old academy product has been with Liverpool for 7 years, but only earned 1 Premier League appearance in 2015/16, and 10 senior appearances total for the Merseyside giants.

Despite failing to breakthrough at Liverpool—which is also completely understandable, considering the strength and depth of our midfield options—Chirivella impressed in his cup appearances this year. He might lack the the physical presence and pace to play in the Premier League, and certainly for a top side in the Premier League, but he very well could prove to be useful to a mid-table French side.

And at 23, Chirivella is still young enough to improve, especially if given the right opportunity, with the right club, with more playing time. Hopefully Chirivella will kick on with his career in France. Best of luck!
