Manchester City will face Chelsea and Liverpool in back-to-back Premier League action.
The Premier League title race is shaping up to be tightly contested this season, and the next two weeks may prove to be pivotal. This weekend, Manchester City travel to Stamford Bridge to play Chelsea, before making their way to Anfield the week after. The Citizens also have the pleasure of facing fellow petrostate sports washing operation Paris St. Germain in the French capital between those fixtures.
According the The Telegraph, when they do play these games, they will be without the services of Aymeric Laporte and John Stones. Former Everton defender Stones has not played for Man City this season after picking up a muscle injury on international duty, while Laporte reportedly has a groin issue. The absences of Stones and Laporte leave only Ruben Dias and Nathan Ake as the club’s two recognised senior centre-backs.
In other injury concerns, left-winger turned left-back Oleksandr Zinchenko continues to deal with a calf problem, with Joao Cancelo likely fill in on the left side of City’s defence. With the season’s intensity ramping up with the Champions League Group Stages underway, both Rodri and Ilkay Gundogan were held out of the cup tie with Wycombe, ahead of the clash with Chelsea on Saturday.
Meanwhile, Liverpool FC will make trips to Brentford and Porto before playing host to City.
