With so much uncertainty as to when, or if, the current season would resume, Nike has apparently cleared the way for Liverpool to finish the season wearing their current New Balance kits
It’s been approximately 84 years since Liverpool last kicked a ball in a competitive match, and it looks like matches won’t commence until May at the earliest. With the postponement of the Premier League, there are a host of contractual issues that have come to the forefront. One of the potential issues that could have come to a head was which kit provider would Liverpool be outfitted in when Jordan Henderson lifts the Premier League trophy?
After a protracted legal battle, Liverpool was able to officially announce they would be switching from New Balance to Nike on June 1, 2020. With the extenuating circumstances caused by the coronavirus pandemic, it was uncertain of Nike would push for the team to switch while the season was still ongoing. According to a report from inews, however, Nike has agreed to allow Liverpool to finish the season in their current New Balance strip. James Pearce of The Athletic confirmed the report.
While this seems to avoid another potential legal battle, it also means Liverpool fans will have to wait to see the teams’ first Nike kits to be revealed. According to Sportbusiness, Nike has delayed the official release of the Euro 2020 kits, as well as the Paris Saint-Germain kit, so it would seem likely that the reveal and release of the Liverpool kits will be delayed as well.
