Rhys Williams is heading to the Championship side on loan in search of playing time.
After playing an unexpected but key role in Liverpool’s late push to finish in the top four last season due to the club’s injury crisis, 20-year-old centre half Rhys Williams is heading off to Wales to join up with Championship side Swansea City on a season-long loan.
With the likes of Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez, and Joël Matip all returning to action after their injuries and looking sharp while new signing Ibrahima Konaté is getting settled in, there was no clear path to first team football with the Reds this season for Williams.
A loan to Swansea, then, would seem to make perfect sense for all parties, with Williams joining a side that will appreciate his’ passing range and that is a big step up from his last loan destination—National League North outfit Kidderminster Harriers.
Williams is unlikely to be the only player departing the Reds today, with fellow depth centre half Nat Phillips also attracting interest from around England and question marks about the future of forward Divock Origi after he signalled his desire to depart.
