King Kenny engaged in some Twitter banter with his family, and even Virgil van Dijk stepped in.
EA Sports franchise FIFA has added legends of the video game the last couple of years. For the FIFA 20 release, several former Liverpool players got the royal treatment. John Barnes, Ian Rush, and the king himself, Sir Kenneth Dalglish, were added to this year’s installment.
When their player cards were released, however, not everyone respected the players of the past. Dalglish’s own son, Paul, started some banter on twitter on behalf of his son, King Kenny’s grandson.
“Your Grandson says he is going to play as @VirgilvDijk and kick lumps out of you” said the younger Dalglish.
Kenny, never one to be bereft of confidence, replied with an image of himself from the game with a message for his grandson and the UEFA Player of the Year that he was ready. What he may not have bargained for is for the Dutch center back to jump into the fray.
Virgil van Dijk, using a gif of teammate and current Scottish captain Andy Robertson, called the former Liverpool striker an “easy target”.
There has been no word as of yet if Robertson sides with his countryman or his teammate on the matter. Robertson may be too busy overcooking steaks and quibbling with James Milner on the matter of pineapple being an acceptable topping on pizza to weigh in.
Nothing like some lighthearted banter to spice up the international break! You can see the twitter exchange below.

Now to the important question. Who would you take in this clash of titans? Are you Team King Kenny or Team Big Virg?
