The Reds trio of Roberto Firmino, Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mané reached 250 goals at Liverpool.
The records broken and milestones reached continue to pile up for this magisterial Liverpool side at a dizzying pace. In a 3-1 win over Brighton that also saw James Milner move into the top 5 for Premier League appearances and Liverpool break Manchester United’s record by becoming the fastest English side to reach 30 wins, there were somehow other Red milestones.
Mohamed Salah’s brace made it 250 goals for the feared front three of Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Sadio Mané. Liverpool manager, Jürgen Klopp was impressed when told:
“250 goals is really exceptional,” the German said. “Imagine where I would be if these boys would not play for me—wow. The situation minus 250 goals, crazy.”
Salah has scored 94 of those goals, bolstered by a record-breaking 44-strike debut campaign, while Mané and Firmino have hit 79 and 77 respectively. While a slightly-altered role has seen the Brazilian’s goal numbers dip this campaign, the two wingers have demonstrated their startling levels of consistency, banging in 43 goals in all competitions this season between the two African stars.
Salah’s two goals have kept him within touching distance of Leicester City’s Jamie Vardy 22 strikes atop the Premier League goalscoring charts as he bids to retain the Golden Boot award he shared with Mané and Arsenal’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang last term.
“He’s a striker, how can [retaining the Golden Boot] not be a motivation for him? That’s clear,” Klopp said of Salah’s late push. “In the last two years, he won the Golden Boot. Last year he shared it with Sadio and Pierre.
“That’s important but in the end you can only score goals when you perform well and he did that [at Brighton], so that was really good.”
With the trio all between 28 and 29 years old, Liverpool fans can still expect see their stars performing at peak levels for several seasons to come.
