Club teammate Andrew Robertson has hopped on the Hendo for PotY bandwagon.

With Liverpool out there breaking records and sat 22 points clear at the top of the table as they look set to break a three decade title drought in dominating style, it seems a certainty that a Red will be named PFA Player of the Season.

Until recently, the only question was which one given the wealth of deserving candidates. Now, though, opinion seems to be coalescing around captain Jordan Henderson despite the fact that few would have thought him a favourite in the autumn.

“I think he’s the leading candidate,” said teammate Andrew Robertson when asked who his pick for PotY would be by Sky Sports this week. “At times this season when we’ve struggled Hendo has been the one that has driven us forward.

“Maybe his performances at the start of the season went a little bit under the radar, but he’s not really had a bad game. You really appreciate him when you train with him every day and in this country he’s not been appreciated enough.”

Winning Player of the Year honours in a season when Liverpool have been as dominant as they have, as part of a side with as many stars as they have, would certainly be a sign that Henderson couldn’t be called under-appreciated any more.

Still, with other options like Alisson, Virgil van Dijk, and Sadio Mané, it’s still far from certain he’ll end up with the gong when it’s all said and done. Regardless any individual honours, though, it’s clear he’s been key to this Liverpool side’s success.

“He’s getting the recognition he deserves because he is a fantastic player, a fantastic role model and a fantastic captain,” Robertson added. “He’s driven us to three points at times this season when we’ve struggled.”
