Liverpool’s players had a successful Tuesday.
Liverpool players had a good Tuesday to close out their international break. The big winner is Diogo Jota. His goal and assist helped Portugal to a 3-0 victory against Azerbaijan that kept them on the top of group A after five games played.
The Netherlands, captained by Virgil van Dijk, notched a huge victory against Turkey. They beat them 6-1. Norway and the Netherlands are both tied at the top with 13 points each, so the goal difference is the key six matches in. The Dutch rout completely obliterated the ground gained by Norway’s nearly as impressive 5-1 win over Gibraltar. As it stands, the Netherlands have a goal difference of +16, while Norway’s is +7.
Andy Robertson’s team, Scotland, benefitted both from a first half VAR review that earned them the winning spot kick and Denmark’s resounding 5-0 victory against Israel. The Scots are now in second place behind the Danish with 11 points, one more than Israel.
Finally, in Africa where World Cup qualifying has only just begun, Sadio Mané scored his second for Senegal in their two qualifying matches. The goal was an 87th minute penalty that was just icing in Senegal’s 3-0 win over Congo. They are now top of group H with six points from six.
The only Liverpool players with games left in this international break are the English and Welsh players. Meanwhile, the club is still waiting to see if their Brazilian players will be allowed to play this weekend against Leeds after not being allowed to travel over the international break. In very good news, Naby Keïta and his teammates have been allowed to leave Guinea after the country’s borders were closed following a military coup. Keïta got on a plane headed back to Europe on Tuesday.
