According to Liverpool’s club doctor, Elliot has had successful surgery to repair a “fracture dislocation of his left ankle.”
On Sunday, a scissor tackle from behind on Liverpool youngster Harvey Elliott left the 18-year-old rising star writhing in pain on the pitch. Team medics rushed quickly onto the field to re-set the midfielder’s dislocated ankle and he was stretchered off the pitch.
Two days later, Elliott has successfully undergone surgery to repair damage to his left ankle and begins the road to recovery—a road that will be shorter than was once feared but that could still see him sidelined for much of the remainder of the 2021-22 season.
However, while no timeline has been placed on his eventual return to action, the club say that they do expect that Elliott will as yet have a role to play for Liverpool again before the current season wraps up on May 22nd, 2022 against Wolverhampton Wanderers.
“Harvey sustained a fracture dislocation of his left ankle during the game,” said club doctor Jim Moxon. “We were able to reduce the dislocation immediately on the pitch and Harvey had surgery today to repair the fracture and ligaments damaged in the incident.
“The operation was a success so his comeback starts now. We won’t put pressure on him by setting a specific timeframe beyond being able to say with confidence we expect him to feature again later in the season following our rehab programme.”
