No sooner had transfer chatter claimed Liverpool were making a move than sources on the Brighton end batted it down.
Earlier in the summer, Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Yves Bissouma was rumoured to be a potential Gini Wijnaldum replacement for Liverpool, with plenty of transfer chatter suggesting the 24-year-old Ivorian was a top target for Jürgen Klopp.
That chatter mostly went away as the summer wore on, but late yesterday claims began to emerge stating the Reds were making a late move for him. We were skeptical, and in this case it hasn’t taken long for that skepticism to seemingly be proven right.
At least according to Andy Naylor, The Athletic’s Brighton specialist, there’s no truth to the claims Liverpool have begun to make any kind of a move for Bissouma. Liverpool haven’t asked; Brighton haven’t given them a price; a deal isn’t about to be on.
Which might not kill the speculation entirely—after all, what clubs want fed to the public by way of connected journalists won’t always match the reality—but should at least put a very serious damper on it for any Liverpool fan who was getting excited.
Meanwhile from a Liverpool perspective, the emergence of Harvey Elliott as a midfield as well as the need to get Curtis Jones more minutes a season after he played nearly 2,000 of them would seem to give the Reds all the depth they need at the position.
