Multiple club connected journalists are reporting that the loan deal will be completed in the next 24 hours.
With just over two weeks left in the Premiere League’s transfer window, Liverpool are looking to finalize deals for a number of fringe players. One of those players, Ben Davies, now seems to have his future sorted, at least for the upcoming season.
Davies was brought in from Preston North End last winter during Liverpool’s unprecedented central defender (and emergency central defender) injury crisis. The 26 year old picked up an injury in training himself, and never managed to get onto the field for the Reds.
With Liverpool’s regular defensive contingent back healthy and available, along with the signing of Ibrahima Konaté, Davis now is solidly sixth or seventh on the depth chart. Several clubs have been reported to be interested in the defender, but it appears that Sheffield United have won the race.
Several club connected (or club connected-adjacent) journalists, including Paul Joyce, James Pearce, and Neil Jones have reported that Liverpool and Sheffield United have agreed on a deal. Liverpool were previously reported to be looking for a permanent deal for Davies, but have seemingly settled for a season-long loan. According to Neil Jones from goal.com, the deal should be finalized within the next day.

For Davies, it will be an opportunity to play in a division where he excelled. He will have the opportunity to help Sheffield United earn promotion after they were relegated last season. It will also be a chance to audition for Sheffield United and other clubs to find a permanent home next year as it seems unlikely that he will have a place with Liverpool going forward.
