The Spanish keeper has been linked with a return to La Liga in recent months.
Adrián signed for Liverpool last summer planning to spend most games on Jürgen Klopp’s bench, playing second to Alisson. But an injury to the Brazilian on the opening day against Norwich City forced Adrián into action. He had a pretty solid run in the side, too. 11 matches, including winning the Super Cup penalty shoot-out against Chelsea. Hurray.
Continuing to perform well, when needed throughout the season, Adrián has significantly increased his reputation as an excellent goalkeeper. So, the questions start to get asked about the player’s willingness to stick with the Reds if he can get a steady thing going somewhere else and be a number one again.
There have been rumours floating around that Real Betis were hoping to lure Adrián back to Spain in the next transfer window but they appear to be linked to last summer’s activity. Other La Liga clubs are said to be interested, too, but Adrián recently told Radio Sevilla he has no intention of moving on from Anfield so soon.
“I see myself in Liverpool at the moment,” he told Radio Sevilla.
“I still have many years of football left, and we will see. I have one more year and another optional one. Right now I wouldn’t change anything to be here in Liverpool and enjoy this beautiful moment.
“After this moment I honestly don’t know, football is a lot of fun.
“In the summer, being a free agent, I saw the possibility of returning to Betis was there, but it vanished.
“You have to live in the present, and we’ll see what happens next. Having to leave home was complicated but looking at it now with perspective it’s clear that I’ve grown as a professional and as a person.”
